Strictly speaking the avocado is a fruit, but since it is used mainly for savoury dishes, it often gets lumped in as a vegetable.

Unusually for a vegetable or fruit, avocados are rich in oils and vitamin E. They also give us a range of B vitamins and useful super nutrients.

Often said to be an almost ‘complete’ food, avocados are certainly highly nutritious, and although they are perceived to be very high in calories and fats, in reality, half of an average sized avocado has around 130 calories (about the same as butter provides in a sandwich).
