Cloves

The dried, unopened flower buds of an evergreen tree of the myrtle family, cloves have a warm, spicy, fruity flavour and have a warm but slightly numbing effect. This explains the traditional use of tincture of clove to treat toothache. It is also known to be effective in improving athletes foot. Thought to have mild aphrodisiac properties, use in mulled wine and marinades for rich meats like venison.
