Chillies & Peppers

Chillies and peppers were eaten by Central and South American Indians some 7000 years BC and were brought into cultivation about 5000-3000 BC. They have remained an important part of this regions diet ever since and from 1492 when Columbus took plants to Europe, their use quickly spread throughout Africa and Asia. Noted for their pungent ‘capsaicinoids’ they are rich in both carotenoids and vitamin C.
