Prunes

A prune is a dried plum, usually the d’Agen sugar plum variety, which is dried without removing the stone.

Prunes were first brought to medieval Europe from the Middle East by the Crusaders but now almost 70% of the world’s prunes now come from California, in the America.

Prunes are great for fibre and are perhaps best known for their laxative effects which can be put down to the sugar-alcohol they contain called sorbitol.
