Originating in the mountains of Tibet and China, peaches were first cultivated in about 2000 BC. By 200 BC they had reached Greece, and by the first century AD the Romans, and soon the rest of Europe, were enjoying tucking in and benefiting nutritionally from this delicious and juicy sweet fruit.

Like other orange fruits, peaches get their beautiful colour from a variety of super nutrient pigments from the carotene family including a combination of alpha and beta carotene, plus another interesting one called beta cryptoxanthin.
